Temporary work has long been a great way to bridge the gap in any organization or manpower outsourcing firms between full-time jobs. Many workers also like the flexibility and the opportunity to test drive different employers.
In this article, Ms. Kanika Kohli, VP, Trendsetters Facilities & Technical Services (TFTS) shares 5 tips to make the most of your temporary job.
Go With A Gig That Matches Your Goals
You always need to be thinking strategically about your career. The short-term benefit of a temporary job is the paycheck, but you also need to make certain that you are getting the long-term benefit that comes from gaining experience, knowledge, skills, capabilities and relationships.
Give It Your All
It would be recommended that temporary workers must approach each work, projector assignment with the same diligence, commitment, and zeal as a full-time job. Like arrive on time in the office daily with a positive attitude and show your willingness to work hard and go the extra yard. If you think that you are able to get through your daily routine tasks pretty quickly, speak up and volunteer your help in other areas.
Know Who You Cannot Be
If you are going to replacing a specific person for a specific time, you need to know that you can’t be them. Who you can be is the one who is doing that job for a period to the best of your capabilities? And then, they might ask you to back again later.
Do Not Be A Pest
Even if an employer has given you a hint that your temporary gig could turn into a permanent position, do not pester your managers and co-workers for status updates. Continue to work through your temporary manpower agency instead of forcing the people on site, and be conscious that it’s unusual for a temporary job to become permanent in less than 90 days. Because at that moment the temporary agency has made money on the placement and would not charge the employer a fee for hiring a temporary into a full-time job.
Develop Your Skill
Take extra initiative to learn new technologies, systems, programs, and applications. A temporary job is a great way to build up your portfolio by continuous learning, building relationships and enhancing skills you may have never used.
Work On Your Network
You might not get hired by your temporary employer, but while you are there you have a great chance to work on your network. The people you meet and work with may be able to introduce you to some great contacts and opportunities.
